The IEP meeting is an important collaborative process between the school and the family. All desired progress is not always made in one meeting. The idea is to work toward a common understanding between parties that provides the child with the necessary services without providing an overly restrictive environment.

Recommendations/Reminders

  • * Always determine the purpose of the meeting when the scheduling is made. Some meetings are full IEP meetings and some are only to review the testing itself. It is best to be clear about the purpose of the meeting to avoid frustration. Discuss this issue with Dr. Kassissieh to determine best use of time and money.

  • * Write your vision statement, desired accommodations and most important goals down before the meeting. The meetings typically start with review of recent assessments followed by discussion of accommodations (if appropriate). This can leave little time for discussion of goals and benchmarks. Writing down your desired accommodations as well as being generally mindful of time in the beginning of the meeting can help leave time for necessary details at the end.
